Canada’s 2026 Stockholm Junior Water Prize winner

August 6, 2026

WEAO is pleased to celebrate Moroti Adegboyega of Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada’s 2026 Stockholm Junior Water Prize winner.

Moroti’s project, Ecoferroquatics: Novel Autonomous Plastic Cleanup Platform Integrating AI, Robotics and a Biocompatibility-Oriented Magnetic Suspension, explores an innovative approach to removing plastic pollution from water. The autonomous aquatic robot combines materials science, robotics and computer vision with a custom ferrofluid-based collection system designed to improve plastic recovery while reducing manual labour and unintended harm to aquatic life.

This August, Moroti will represent Canada at the international Stockholm Junior Water Prize competition in Stockholm, joining young innovators from around the world who are developing solutions to significant water challenges. The international award ceremony will take place on August 25.

The public will also have an opportunity to support Moroti through the People’s Choice Award. Voting is expected to open on August 1.

Watch for upcoming WEAO emails and social media posts containing the direct voting link. We will share it as soon as voting opens. In the meantime, readers can visit the Stockholm Junior Water Prize website to learn more about the international competition and Canada’s winning project.
